AGM = Kage

Gel = Huawei

MF = fuxinyuan/huawei

Atom Gel

  • Deep discharge (doesn’t really matter for bikes)
  • No leakage
  • Long service life
  • Vibration resistant (less than AGM)
  • High temperature range (from cold to hot)

Atom AGM

  • Higher cranking amps than lead acid
  • More resistant to vibration
  • No leakage
  • Can handle a high charging current
  • Higher power density

Atom VRLA

  • Affordable
  • Maintenance free

AGM Batteries:

Composition: AGM batteries use an absorbed glass mat and battery acid. The absorbed glass mat is a fine fiberglass mat capable of absorbing sulfuric acid. These batteries contain just enough liquid to keep the fiberglass wet.

Strengths:

High Burst of Amps: AGM batteries excel at providing a high burst of amps when needed.

Colder Climates: They perform well in colder climates.

Lower Internal Resistance: AGM batteries have lower internal resistance, allowing them to output a higher burst of amps.

Faster Recharge: They recharge more quickly than GEL batteries.

Applications:

Vehicle Applications: AGM batteries are commonly used in vehicles due to their power and affordability.

More robust for start/stop driving, low internal resistance.

  • High cranking power even on cold days
  • Highly vibration resistant
  • Increased power density over acid alternatives

Composed of sulfuric acid absorbed into glass fibre mat, AGM batteries are leak free, can be mounted in any orientation and feature higher cranking power than alternative lead acid batteries.

AGM is the right choice if you need:

  • High cranking power (big bike etc)
  • Weight isn’t an issue
  • Better performance in colder climates
  • Faster recharge

GEL Batteries:

Composition: GEL batteries contain a mix of sulfuric acid and fumed silica, creating a gel-like substance that remains immobile.

Strengths:

Slow Discharge Applications: GEL batteries are better suited for slow discharge applications.

Warm Climates: GEL batteries thrive in warmer climates.

Steady Power Delivery: They provide steady power delivery.

Vibration Resilience: GEL batteries are resilient to vibration.

Opt for GEL Batteries if you require:

  • Slow discharge capabilities (can be stored longer)
  • Reliable performance in warm climates.

Similarities:

  • Both AGM and GEL batteries have a sealed design and are regulated by a series of valves to prevent leakage.
  • The pressure valves in both battery types retain toxic gases when they are flooded.
  • Both are resistant to vibration (AGM moreso)

Lead Acid:

Lead-acid batteries are a fundamental type of rechargeable battery. They consist of lead electrodes immersed in a sulfuric acid electrolyte. This is old battery technology – having been invented over one hundred years ago.

Composition:

Positive Plate: Made of lead dioxide (PbO₂).

Negative Plate: Composed of pure lead (Pb).

Electrolyte: A solution of sulfuric acid (H₂SO₄).

Working Principle:

During discharge, a chemical reaction occurs between the plates and the electrolyte, producing electrical energy.

When charging, the opposite reaction occurs, storing energy for later use.

Reliable: Widely used due to their reliability and cost-effectiveness.

Low Energy Density: Compared to modern batteries, lead-acid batteries have relatively low energy density.

High Surge Currents: Despite low energy density, they can supply high surge currents.

Short Cycle Lifespan: Typically less than 500 deep cycles.

Long Charging Times: Charging can take a while.

Lead Acid is a good choice if you require:

  • A cheap solution
  • Don’t need to mount the battery on its side
  • Have a classic motorcycle
